In the Absence of Running

In the Absence of Running

A series of artworks made with photographic material from arthroscopies and surgical interventions of the artist's knees, following cartilage injury. With the activity of running a significant part of her artwork, the injury forced her to temporarily put planned work on hold.

Digital footage was reworked into a moving image animation artwork, in split screen, emphasising the electronic nature of the body captured as data. This was shown as part of a screening event for the RUN! RUN! RUN! Biennale 2016 #R3fest, Screening Event, UCL, London on the 23rd November 2016.

A prototype for two large-scale inkjet prints made from stills from the moving image work was shown as part of the exhibition Prescriptions, at the Beanie House Museum, Canterbury, April 21st -August 15th 2016 and later completed in 2017, along with a pdf e-book version of the work.

An essay: "In the Absence of Running: from injury and medical intervention to art", will be published as part of a forthcoming Special Issue of the Journal of Medical Humanities, edited by Stella Bolaki (University of Kent, Dept. of English), published by Springer.
