Orford Ness Residency

Orford Ness Residency

In August 2011, the artist undertook a research residency for 5 days with four other artists on Orford Ness, a former military testing ground and nature reserve off the coast of Suffolk, now owned by the the National Trust .

This site is unusual, known as much for its geographical features and landscape as the largest remote shingle spit in Europe and for the forbidding relics of its disturbing past, much of which is difficult and potentially dangerous and determines the access given to visitors, which is severely restricted.

Initially spurred on by the idea of creating an alternative guide to the site, the artists negotiated the residency with the warden of the site, Duncan Kent, who allowed them to spend 5 consecutive days on site, accommodated in a former military building. Work from this will be developed during 2012/2013.
